Baby Essentials That Aren't →
I’m loving this 7-part series! The only reservation I have is with Part 5: The Baby Bathtub. We’ve got a bathing, changing set up that we like so I think Ridwan and I still prefer bathing him in there rather than the laundry/ kitchen sink whilst he’s still too small for the fullsized adult tub.
We’re heading to Singapore and Indonesia soon though, so we’ll see what...
Random thought
I know I’m not all that ladylike or a girly girl but if our little man gets a sister in the future, I hope she’ll be very feminine.
Feminine. But strong.
Insya Allah.
The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts,...

Happy cup
He doesn’t like the bottle. It’s a struggle to get him to drink EBM from it. He just doesn’t get it; you know the whole nipple confusion thing? Well, ok, to be fair we’ve tried all of 3 times. One of those times, he got upset so we stopped trying before he started crying.
People have suggested against bottle training, that when I’m away at work or elsewhere,...
On rolling and reading
My SIL wondered what it was that Mukhlis was lying on in the photo of him in our backyard. It’s a playmat we got for free from the community nurse who came to check on us when he was a few days old. The whole idea of the mat is to encourage tummy time right from the start and to remind parents that YOU ARE YOUR KIDS FAVOURITE TOY/ PLAYMATE! There’s also a slogan on it about starting an...

The (Epic Saga of the) Birth of Baby M
Hi guys. This isn’t an edited version of the one I posted earlier or anything like that. It’s just that Part Nine appeared after all the other parts on the website and although I know NOBODY CARES, it bothers me. The slightly OCD, unnecessarily concerned about unimportant things, me. So yeah, I’ve put all the parts together into one post (also for easier reading in the future,...

you don’t just experience the joy of looking after your child when you have a baby, you also see a side of your spouse that never had a chance to surface before… and then you kinda give yourself a hi-five coz you realize once again that you married the right one

It’s my most favourite parenting site ever! And I only discovered it last week! Boo.
Like any self-respecting 21st century mother, I’ve googled anything from baby sleep to milestones to poop colour, I’ve trawled dozens of parenting forums, I’ve stalked way too many Mummy Blogs…
But this, this one is my favourite :) I read it like a book. I guess because it...
Screen Time
We regularly video Skype with Ridwan’s family and FaceTime with mine. Well, on our side it mainly features the little guy. He has no problems making eye contact with and cooing at the people he sees on the screen - true child of the 21st century!
With reference to the American Academy of Paediatrics’ recommendation that children under 2 years of age not watch any TV whatsoever (I...

Like MC Hammer
Once upon a time he was this tiny fragile thing that I kept really close to my body in bed at night. Now I put him far enough on the bed so that I can, you know, take deeper breaths.
But he still manages to shimmy his little butt right next to me.
Also, he sleeps like a starfish.
Beautified for men is the love of things they covet; women, children, much of...

I’m a natural birthing, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, babywearing Mama! But all out of circumstance/ neccesity/ my cultural background. It amuses me a little that these practices are a big deal in the modern Western world.
But erm, no, I will not be homeschooling.

The nighttime misadventures of Mr Wrigglebum
After sleeping through the night in bed previously, the little man decides to shake things up last night.
8:30pm: nursed then slept in bed.
12am: woke to nurse, wanted to play but discouraged, fell asleep but cried when put down.
2am: Ridwan took over holding bub while he slept.
4am: My turn to hold him.
4:30am: nursed, pooped, played, nursed, pooped, 10min nap, nursed, 10min nap,...
The REAL maternity leave begins
Day 1 of being at home on my own. It was long, but it was ok.
Baby M’s smiley and sweet and newborny but as usual, wants to be in my arms 99% of the time. Unfortunately, he hasn’t taken to the sling or else -ta da!- problem solved! (After all, we’ve inadvertently begun co-sleeping, might as well stick to the program and start babywearing.)
He spent some time on my bed or in...

– He’s booked for his circumcision next week. We had a lovely aqeeqah/ hair shaving “party” at our place with about 30+ people near and dear to us two days ago, alhamdulillah.
The longest day
My mum, dad and littlest sister left for Singapore today.
I miss them terribly, it feels like they’ve been gone forever.
Of course I’m a bit nervous looking after Baby M, now without my mum’s help. But it’s not just that - I’m mainly sad that we’re not all together, that we are apart.
Remember how I mentioned before that I was excited about bub’s...
My baby, why does it break my heart to put you in your cot instead of having you in bed with me?
My two-week-old
Doesn’t like being swaddled.
Maintains eye contact and is SMILEY!
Laughs in his sleep.
Flails his arms about when hungry… and then sometimes mistakes his hand for my boob and gets frustrated.
Hardly cries.
Loooves Kangaroo care, even when he’s not fully undressed.
Generally does not like being undressed (including diaper changes), but is getting used to it.
Enjoys...
